Ending Roe and putting lives and families in jeopardy; expanding Heller and hobbling law enforcement from protecting us; curtailing the EPA's ability to combat climate change; ending affirmative action; restricting public accommodation for protected classes; striking down the President's student debt relief plan - the list goes on and on.

With Juneteenth, our summer holidays, taken together, march us through a moving procession of service, sacrifice, patriotism, the dignity of work - and now - the celebration of freedom and equality, the high cost of hard-fought rights, and the long tail and final failure of hate.

That horrible experience woke me up to the reality of what women faced throughout the country, and I decided to try to do something about it.

Once again, the Democratic Party has inherited the mantle of personal freedom, decency, and human dignity.

Some things, we hope, defy partisanship. Protecting Black lives should be chief among them. But as Democrats, we have a special duty to support and lead these conversations, because we believe that racial diversity and racial equity are to be fought for – to be achieved – not just written about.

So…Thank you, John Lewis, for the huge role you played in the positive societal changes I’ve observed in my lifetime. They’ve made America a better nation and, I hope, made me a better person.
